experimental typography

typo bloom

To achieve a deeper understanding for typography and all the rules that come with it, we had to design an object that folds and unfolds which had to include certain texts from Herman Hesse as well as portrayals of particular words.

Since I did not wanted to end up with a Laporello I opted for two folded boxes nested into each other. The final objects looks a bit like a blossom and is hold together by clips that can easily be removed to improve the readability of some texts.

Other pages were layout in the worst possible way to visualize what can be done wrong when it comes to readability and layout.

One unreadable page for example features a portrait of the poet himself which is build completely out of the letters h-e-r-m-a-n-n. If you look close enough you might be able to read some of them but the small font size and the overlay of the letters make it very difficult to spot the individual pieces.
